End the Gray Apocalypse
Have you heard of the Gray Apocalypse in America? Nearly 80% of Americans live in this “Gray Apocalypse.” You may not have heard the term, but you know the symptoms. Your life has become zombie-like. You either go through the motions of working until you can’t, sell all of your worldly possessions to downsize, or find a way to get by. Meaning you do not have enough for a comfortable retirement.
If you are caught in this vicious trap, I have found a way out. I have researched countless ways to supplement your retirement income, from the sites that promise 60 to 1001 ways to make extra money to all of the get-rich-quick scams going around online. You may even have been tempted to try one. I did. It was a waste of time and money.
The good news is that I have discovered a real solution. Niche blogging. Niche blogging is a great way to generate extra income while doing something you enjoy. Through Setting Points I will reveal proven strategies for mastering niche blogging for retirement.
How Can I Find a Profitable Niche?
One of the most repeated questions I see is “How Can I Find a Profitable Niche?” I will walk you through the steps of finding it on your terms. Demonstrate how I did it for myself, and if you are having a hard time deciding, leave a comment below. I will send you a quick checklist to help you choose the right niche. If that does not work, buy me a cup of coffee and I will provide you with some great suggestions for a profitable niche.
I have a great post about niche selection – How to Find Your Niche and Turn Your Skills into Cash |
The four keys to remember in Profitable Niche Selection are
- Personal Interests – While not mandatory for profit, your interest in the niche goes a long way in keeping you moving forward
- Competition – An SEO Review. You are not going to want to pick a niche that has you competing with Forbes, or Amazon (BTW – I am an Amazon Associate and I earn from qualifying purchases that you may make when using my affiliate link), but I sure would not want to compete against them, and the like. I have one word for you, DON’T
- Commerciality – Meaning is there something in this that you can sell? The more commercial the product, the more competition there is. We want to be profitable, not sell a “commodity” that has no margin.
- Market Breadth – How many people are looking for what you are offering? It would help if you found eyeballs to look at your site.
Bottom Line – You are looking for something in your life that interests you, that is sellable, is not a commodity item sold by a major player but is routinely searched for. I know, you are thinking that this is impossible. It is if you do not know where to start or what tools to use.
I had the same thoughts before I started attending training for Affiliate Marketing. I saw an enticing ad on YouTube selling a $99.00 3-day weekend boot camp in creative Funnel Making/Business Building. I learned about Affiliate Marketing. At the end of the boot camp, I was asked for $15,000* to continue with a 12-week class, AND $297 a month ongoing cost of business. *I have provided my affiliate link to that boot camp if you want to join it. Follow in my footsteps exactly. This boot camp gave me the insight to look for a better alternative. What I found is changing my life. For $49.00/month I have hosting of three websites with SSL, several thousand hours of training, with beginning-to-end to end courses from basic to some of the most advanced courses imaginable. Wealthy Affiliate. Again, my affiliate link is embedded in the link. When you join, I am compensated to ensure that you are getting started on the right path.
So you have a niche. Now what?
Know Thy Audience
For myself, this was way too easy. I am exactly who I am looking for. Someone within 10 years of retirement, falls in line with the 80% of Americans underfunded for retirement. I have seen the problem, I fear the problem, and am terrified of the consequences. Here is a decent rundown of the Gray Apocalypse.
Retirement Crisis: Understanding the Problem and Finding Solutions
Develop a content strategy – You know your niche, you know your audience. How are you going to use your voice to help those in need? How are you going to lay out your website? Think about this for a minute. How does all of your content relate to each other?
My strategy is straightforward. If you are in the 80%, you need to make a decision. pet sit, babysit, rent your basement, downsize, or follow my path away from the abyss. Knowing that you will make the right decision, I laid out everything that you will need to start your own affiliate marketing business on a shoestring budget. I do not pay for anything other than what I need. Period. You will not either.
My content is divided into three main categories. This is my strategy
- Build the Machine – Getting Started – Detailed step-by-step guidance
- Solve The Problems – Hurdles that I have overcome
- Answer Questions & Provide Solutions – Questions to answers from around the web and In-depth reviews of successful tools.
Finally, all of the groundwork has been laid out and your path is in front of you. All you have to do is put yourself in Dorothy’s shoes and follow the Yellow Brick Road.

Stratos, Thank you for taking the time to read this post. They Gray Apocalypse is real. I believe that niche blogging and affiliate marketing is a viable solution to eliminate it in our life. The biggest obstacle is niche selection. The “Best of Lists” and “The Most Profitable ” are doing this industry no good. They do not factor in your perspective, background, and experiences. I have found that belief in what you write goes a long way in determining your level of success. Personally, I have succeeded in creating posts that rank #1 on various subjects surrounding Niche Blogging for Retirement for this very reason. Has this post helped you get over the hump in your efforts?
I found your blog post about the Most Profitable Niche in 2023 to be quite intriguing. Multiple posts and blogs that I have found are focused on providing an impersonal and lengthy number of irrelevant posts, claiming profitability. They expect that you should blindly pick something from their list and be on about your business.
First, this is not helpful. It does not condition you to think about what you are embarking on. You have no skin in the game. Secondly, use this stale list and you will be behind the trendline. What you offer is a great approach and a fresh idea for niche selection. You are the Niche Master. How did you develop this idea?
I enjoy researching my topic thoroughly. I am a part of the Gray Apocalypse and have found Niche Blogging for Extra Retirement Income was a solid opportunity to solve my problem. And if it can solve mine, then it can help the 80% of Americans who are dealing with this Retirement Crisis.
The first part of my research was to simply Google “How to Master Niche Blogging”. Immediately I got a list of “Successful” Niche ideas. Anywhere from 7 to 101 ideas, pick one, follow me, oh, and purchase my course.
This led me to develop the Niche Master philosophy. This is a continual work in progress. Anything published today about technology is truly outdated tomorrow. I will keep you updated with the trends in Niche Blogging. Join my group of people passionate about eliminating the Gray Apocalypse for themselves. And by all means, if you need assistance grasping the Niche Master concept, send the in-depth answers to your questions to NicheMaster@SettingPoints.com
Pasindu,
I appreciate your perspective and your comments. I have been in Sales and Marketing for decades. When I came to Affiliate Marketing, I had to do a lot of research. The one thing that I found repeated is this illusion of choice. We are told that these are “The Best” or The Ultimate lists and that you need to choose from here. They rank the niches and people pick from the top. Google suggests that 95% of all blogs fail. Why is this? I propose that 95% of all blogs started were started from this same failed strategy of picking form a list.
Lesser-known niches have the advantage of less competition initially. With quality content focusing on real problems and questions, niche experts can gain readership among interested fans while facing less keyword congestion. Following one’s genuine interests also nourishes more authentic content. Overall, niche selection deserves deeper consideration beyond just lists of favorites.
As a way to help my followers, I started an “Anti-List” Campaign and from that concept grew “The Niche Master” concept. I believe that you will also enjoy my next post. Why Choosing From The Best Lists Are Killing Your Niche. I look forward to your comments on this post as well. Feel free to share this post with anyone contemplating entering into the affiliate marketing arena. – Don
