Dying to Get Read But Don’t Know Where to Start? Catch Contagious Clicks With These Tips! This post is for you if you are having problems getting people to read your posts. I cannot overstate the importance of knowing who you are writing for. Each blog post that I create begins with an understanding of what my readers are looking for. For example, you found this post because you were looking for “How to Get Your Post Read”. This is a common problem for most new bloggers.

Thorough Keyword Research Pays Off Big

Conducting keyword research isn’t just about identifying easy-to-rank SEO terms; it’s about deciphering the needs and questions that bring my audience to my blog. Tools like Google Keyword Planner or Jaaxy, I uncover the phrases and queries that are not just popular but relevant. Both of these are great tools. The keyword planner is found within Google Ads. Jaaxy is a free tool that is included with my Wealthy Affiliate, where I am a top-ranking member.

HARPA.AI has a million and one uses

Today I am also going to introduce you to a powerful new browser extension, HARPA.AI. This is one powerful tool that I am not sure why anyone would be creating content without it. The price? FREE.

Using A New Tool

While HARPA.AI has a million and one uses, I am mainly focused on using it to:

  • Extract SEO Keywords from other top-ranking posts
    • I want to see what they are missing
  • Define Topic Authority
    • What Keywords are Required
  • Creating a Keyword Report
    • Looking for Long Tail Possibilities
  • Keyword Strategy
    • What Questions to Answer

E-E-A-T This!

With a clear grasp of what readers are searching for, my next task is brainstorming blog post ideas. I look for topics with a fresh perspective, ensuring they align with the overall theme of the blog. Today’s fresh topic is using HARPA’s eyes to point out the obvious. When I can fill in the blanks that other posts are missing, E-E-A-T is fulfilled and Google serves up my posts.

My page 1, Position 1, and Featured Snippets are a testimony to the success of the process.

Master Medium

To craft blog posts that stand out, I fill content gaps that other articles have left open. I aim to fill these gaps with insightful, high-value content that provides solutions my readers can’t easily find elsewhere.

7.9 Billion People in the World – You Are Unique

What is my unique angle? Maybe it’s 30 years of personal experience, a contrarian viewpoint, introducing new tools, or an easier-to-understand interpretation of familiar information that captures an audience’s attention.

You are one in 7.9 billion

All these efforts culminate in a list of potential blog post topics. Now, I want to make sure I’m not just attracting readers, but engaging them. To do this, I need to draft titles that click. Not clickbait, but intriguing enough to promise value and encourage that all-important click-through.

Crafting a Structured Blog Outline

To keep from rambling on or worse yet, talking in circles, I need to create a well-structured blog post outline. Level 2 and 3 Headers (sometimes levels 4 & 5) are not only beneficial for reader comprehension but how often do you find yourself “skimming the headers” to see what a post is about? I do it all of the time. I clicked a link and checked the headers to see if it was really what I wanted to read, If it was, I read it. If not, I jump back to the results page.

Have you noticed that Google is having problems indexing helpful content versus AI-generated “Fluff”? I have. It has almost gotten to the point that I may be dropping Google for searches and just using ChatGPT or one of his many cousins. If you are a Medium member, Google in Crisis as AI Content Explodes!

Foolproof Outlining Process

Every good blog post starts with a reliable outline. You want this skeleton to hold all the key parts of your post in an organized fashion. I have a great AI Prompt to help with this. This is 2024, if you are not using AI to create your outline, your post IS missing something.

The only thing that you need to change with this prompt is the terms within the [Brakets]. I know that this one works very well.

Extra! Extra! Read All About It!

Extra! Extra! Read All About The Headlines

Headlines Get Read 1st. A headline isn’t just a title; it’s the first, and sometimes only, chance you get to grab your reader’s attention. Make it compelling and informative, promising the reader that their question will be answered or their curiosity piqued.

Following the headline, you need a hook in your introduction. This is your opportunity to latch onto the reader’s interest. Whether it’s a surprising fact, a poignant question, or a relatable anecdote, the hook should seamlessly transition into the body of your content.

Where’s The Beef?

As for the body, it should be a series of subheadings and corresponding points that logically progress towards your conclusion. Make sure each point is substantial and backed by research or experience. Bullet points and numbered lists can help break information into digestible chunks.

It’s one thing to write a blog post, but another to ensure readers fully read and appreciate its value. Let’s examine some reasons posts might leave audiences still feeling unfulfilled:

Did You Know

  • Only 17% of readers will finish an article if it’s unclear how it satisfies their interests.
  • Readers want depth, not weak watered-down summaries.
  • Substantiate claims and anecdotes with evidence and examples.
  • Answer the “so what?” by taking angles well beyond obvious solutions.

To genuinely engage your audience, your topics need to uncover fresh insights. By providing comprehensive coverage that goes beyond surface-level discussions, your readers will start to follow you.

Leave a Lasting Impression

Crafting an Enduring Legacy

Concluding your post effectively is just as vital as the beginning. This is your last chance to leave an impression on the reader. You want them to take action, or engage further with your content. Show your readers how your points tie them back to your opening hook for a satisfying wrap-up.

As for your conclusion, it should provide a clear closure to the topic, offer a Call to Action (CTA), or pose a thought-provoking question to encourage further engagement from readers.

Your Post is Written, Now What?

If you hit publish now, all the work that you did up to this point is for naught. I’ve always found that the real magic in writing comes from the refining process.

Eagle Eye Editor

After you have poured out your ideas and initial thoughts into a draft, it’s essential to return with a critical eye. The editing phase is all about transforming your raw content into a polished gem that readers can appreciate for its clarity and coherence.

Consider each sentence and ask yourself: Is it clear? Is it necessary? Does it add value to the post? Strive for simplicity and brevity, without sacrificing depth.

Cut the Crap

Cut out any fluff that detracts from your main point. Your goal is to keep the reader engaged from beginning to end without any confusing detours.

Proofreading is not just about correcting typos and grammar errors; it’s an opportunity to sharpen your voice and tighten your narrative.

What Do You Think? Can You Read It?

A technique I stand by is reading the post aloud. This helps catch awkward phrasings and lends a sense of the natural flow of your writing.

Opinions matter and can set your content apart from the sea of AI-generic posts. So, don’t shy away from weaving in your unique perspective.

While your blog should be informative, your insights or experiences will be the hook that keeps your readers coming back for more.

Lastly, the optimization of your content isn’t a one-time task—it’s an ongoing experiment. Pay attention to how your audience responds to different posts.

I am done with writing, editing, and refining can I publish it now?
NOT YET!

We have a couple more steps to pass through.  I ask my friend Chatty (ChatGPT) to review the final draft with this prompt:

Is this post optimized for the keyword phrase [TITLE] if so, simply say that it is ok.  If not, make it optimized with MINIMAL rewriting.  Put your changes in bold.  Here is the post so far…

Feed the entire post to your favorite VA, and let it tell you if you are finished.

I may make some minimal changes, but that is ok.

Social Media Madness

Buffer is a great free scheduler. Their paid version isn’t so bad either.

Don’t overlook email marketing. If you’ve built an email list, use it to share your latest post. An engaging email can bring direct traffic to your blog and strengthen reader loyalty.

Talk to Everyone – Competitors Can Be Friends

Networking with other bloggers or influencers can amplify your content’s reach. Engage with peer communities, comment on other blogs, and collaborate when possible. Link sharing through guest posts or mutual promotions can be beneficial.

Remember to engage with your readers once they arrive. When someone takes the time to comment, responding personably and promptly can turn a one-time visitor into a regular reader and sharer. Always answer their questions fully and ask a relevant follow-up open-ended question. Keep them talking and they will tell more people.

The success of your promotional efforts can often be gauged through analytics. Which promotional channels drove the most traffic? What type of content gets shared more? Use this data to tailor your future blog promotional strategies and iterate on what works.
